Every single one of our staff members has their own skills, experiences, talents, and interests outside of Maples, we love getting to know our staff members on a more personal level.
Recently we chatted with our new IT technician Jack, who told us more about his passions in life, his personal relationship with mental health, and what drew him to Maples.
Tell us about you
“Outside of work, I’m very musical. I sing, write songs, and I’m learning the ukulele. I’ve got four songs on Spotify, including a charity single. Fitness is also a big part of my life—I enjoy PT sessions, HIIT classes, and racing. Recently, a go-karting team invited me for a private test. If it goes well, I could join their team, which is really exciting.”
Tell us about your role
“I handle IT at Maples, acting as the first point of contact for any hardware issues or error messages. I’ll also be working with Three Cherries to take on some of their responsibilities, ensuring we have on-site support. Hopefully, that means fewer IT problems—touch wood!”
Jack has already earned the nickname ‘IT Wizz,’ though the Finance team is starting to question his wizardry after some recent tech troubles!
Tell us about your background & previous experience
“I studied IT and business in college, then completed an apprenticeship where I worked at an IT desk for three years. During that time, I earned Level 3 and Level 4 diplomas in IT and business.
Before returning to IT, I tried a few different jobs. I worked from home for a while, but it wasn’t the right fit. Then I became a salesman selling cables—not really my thing, but it got me back into the workplace.
When I saw this role at Maples, it felt like the perfect match. The company’s mission resonated with me on a personal level, so it wasn’t just the IT aspect that drew me in.”

What inspired you to go for a job in Mental health?
“The last few years have been really tough. My friend had leukemia, I lost my grandad, and a close friend took his own life. It took a toll on me, and I took time off work to go to therapy. At first, I didn’t stick with it, but after losing my grandmother in December, I gave it another shot.
For a long time, I was embarrassed to talk about my mental health. Now, I see it differently—it’s nothing to be ashamed of. When I first spoke to Tiff on the phone, we were laughing within minutes. That conversation made me feel like Maples was the right place for me, somewhere I could feel confident and happy at work.”
What would you be doing If you weren’t doing this
“Crying! laughs But seriously, if I wasn’t in IT, I’d be in sports or music. I was really sporty growing up, but after five operations by the time I was 22, I figured it was time to move on.”
What makes you excited to work at Maples?

“The people. It’s important to have a team where you’re not just colleagues but friends, too. You spend so much of your time at work, so the environment makes a huge difference. I thrive on confidence—when I doubt myself, I second-guess everything.
This is the first job in years where I’ve felt genuinely motivated. I’ve been waking up before my alarm on Monday mornings, actually looking forward to the day ahead. That’s a great feeling.”
Do you have a welcome message?
“If you can be anything, be kind.”
We’re thrilled to welcome Jack to the Maples team and can’t wait to see what he brings to the role. Thank you, Jack, for sharing your story with us!
