At The Park, supporting service users means looking at the whole person, not just their mental health, but their physical wellbeing too. We spoke to Sophie, our General Nurse at The Park to learn more about her role and how she supports recovery.
The Role of a General Nurse at The Park
“In my role as a General Nurse at The Park, I support service users in managing their physical health and working toward a healthy lifestyle. I also ensure that physical wellbeing, too often overlooked in mental health services, receives the attention it deserves. However at The Park there is a real focus on the relationship between physical and mental health.
I work collaboratively alongside my mental health and therapy colleagues. We strive to deliver a holistic package of support, tailored to each individual’s needs.”

Supporting our Service Users
“Nursing staff are in a unique position to assess and support service users as part of a seven day service. This allows us to help service users identify their individual wellbeing needs and develop goals and strategies to support independence, health and wellbeing.
Nursing staff at The Park also manage service users’ medication, including depot administration, with the overall goal of supporting independence. We play an important role in ensuring that clinical aspects of care, including care planning, risk management and working with other professionals, run smoothly.”
Changes We See in Service Users Over Time
“One of the most significant changes I typically see in service users during their time at The Park is individuals becoming more autonomous and less institutionalised, particularly for those who have had a long hospital stay.”
Why General Nursing Matters in Recovery
“There is strong evidence to suggest that physical health needs are often overlooked in mental health services. At The Park, the relationship between physical and mental wellbeing is recognised from the point of assessment through to discharge.”

A Holistic Approach to Care
