SERVICE: Empowering Our Community, One Event at a Time

Following the success of last year’s Service User Conference, Maples hosted another inspiring Community Event focused on helping Service Users plan for the future!

On 12th September, we welcomed Service Users to the Vassall Centre for a day packed with connection, learning, and creativity. The event featured a lively marketplace where a variety of organisations showcased their services, alongside interactive workshops and activities including:

  • Chess with Chanda and Noel – fun and strategy for all levels
  • Nutrition talks with Greg – practical tips for healthier living
  • Creative sessions with Elena and Dawn – letting imagination shine
  • Wellbeing workshops with Nigel – tools to support everyday mental health

We were also treated to fantastic performances from Service Users and staff, with Russell and Noel keeping the music flowing all day!

Connecting with Local Partners

Our Service Users had the chance to engage with organisations providing vital support and resources, including:

  • The Police – guidance and safety tips
  • Work Well West – career and skills support
  • SARI – support for survivors of abuse
  • Sirona, the Library, and other local organisations – a wealth of information to empower individuals

These collaborations reflect Maples’ belief that service is both a privilege and a responsibility. By creating opportunities, sharing knowledge, and offering support, we can make a meaningful and positive impact on the well-being of our community.

Celebrating Service and Community

The event wasn’t just about workshops and resources, it was a celebration of community, creativity, and connection. Seeing Service Users engage, perform, and support one another highlighted the very essence of our SERVICE value: making a difference, together.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed, from staff and volunteers to partner organisations and Service Users themselves. Your energy and commitment ensure that Maples continues to be a place where people can grow, connect, and thrive.

We can’t wait for the next gathering, more opportunities to learn, celebrate, and serve our community are always around the corner!
